Don’t Worry What People Think About You

This is a very short newsletter but an important one. 

“Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner.” — Lao Tzu

Worrying about whether people like you or not” can distract you from focusing on your improvement and priorities. 

Instead, prioritize self-growth and personal goals, which lead to genuine self-confidence and fulfillment. 

By concentrating on what truly matters to you, you develop resilience and a sense of purpose that is not dependent on external validation. 

This approach enhances your personal and professional life and attracts like-minded individuals who appreciate you for who you are.

Some quick advice:

  • Go for a Walk – This is my go-to for almost any problem. Walking helps you stop focusing on what others think by shifting your attention to your surroundings and physical sensations. It reduces stress and clears your mind, promoting mindfulness and self-reflection. Getting outdoors and walking helps you regain perspective and prioritize your thoughts and goals.​
  • Focus on Self-Improvement: Concentrate on developing skills, habits, and knowledge that align with your goals and values. Being focused on self-improvement wires your brain in a positive way not to require input from others to maintain your own “value of self.”
  • Set Personal Priorities: Clearly define what is important and allocate time and resources accordingly. When you are focused on your priorities and focused on overcoming today’s obstacles, you do not have time to worry about what others think. Additionally, taking ownership of what is required to accomplish your priorities creates the discipline and confidence you need and makes what others think is less important. 
  • Build Self-Confidence: Do things and build experience to build self-confidence. There is no stronger shield against the negative vibes we receive from other people if you are on top of your self-confidence game. Overcoming obstacles, getting a little better every day, and achieving personal goals foster self-esteem and reduce the need for external approval. 
  • Resilience and Purpose: Understanding your why is critical to not worrying about what people think of you. A strong sense of purpose and resilience comes from within, making you less susceptible to others’ opinions.
  • Attract Like-Minded People: By being true to yourself and your values, you naturally attract people who appreciate you for who you are. Likewise, take the steps necessary to remove toxic people from your life. Supportive people celebrate your wins. They get joy out of your victories. Toxic people become intoxicated with your failures to the point that they may try to sabotage you.
